The LESBP is perfect. It is on the first floor of a six floor walk-up on 5th St and Second Ave, next to a bar called Sin Sin The Leopard Lounge, down the street from a retirement home. I often see little old ladies with walkers loitering outside The Leopard Lounge.
The LESBP is still largely unfurnished. The two girls who live here apparently just moved in and then took off for the summer, so there's nothing on the walls, no cookware. A New Press friend lent me a saucepan, which is great, because I can both boil water and fry eggs in it (there's no spatula, so I've learned how to flip eggs with a knife). I have seen only two cockroaches (little ones) and innumerable mosquitos, but hey, it's summer in New York. There is a maple tree outside my bedroom window. The other windows overlook some picturesque urban decay (bricks, concrete, fire escapes). Every morning around 3:00 a cat starts wailing.
It's so wonderful I can almost forget it's not really mine...
